Nutrition changes to reduce cholesterol: A Client’s Journey
“I can’t thank you enough Ophelia, my cholesterol has dropped from 6.5 to 5.0”.
In March, a 64 year old man asked me if I would advise and support him to make necessary dietary changes to lower his cholesterol.
In 2 months it had dropped to 5.7 and now it’s at 5.
Remarkable.
The evidence is his outcome.
Simultaneously I was supporting another man who also achieved a marked reduction in his cholesterol.
What had happened to them? How did they know they had high cholesterol?
Hitting 60, they’d independently decided to have a ‘check up’. Blood tests revealed they had high cholesterol levels (particularly their ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol).
I’m sure most of you are aware, but we do not know what our cholesterol levels are unless we have blood tests,
Trim and active they were both shocked and disappointed.
They believed their diets were healthy.
But the question they came to me with was:
‘Could dietary changes positively affect cholesterol?’
We looked at their weekly nutrition. Everything they ate and drank.
I highligted the aspects that can negatively affect cholesterol.
We discussed changes they were happy to try.
That would be realistically to incorporate into their lives.
They both gradually adopted these changes. We discussed weekly what was working for them personally and what was unrealistic. They didn’t go from zero to hero overnight.
The changes took time, focus and strategy of ‘test and see’. But it worked. They found a food ‘blue-print’ that suited their lifestyles, taste preferences and time constraints. It was achievable, realistic and most importantly, sustainable and giving them better health markers.
